The Journey Behind Odyssey
The Odyssey Insulated Backpack has been quietly in development for some time. From the earliest design conversations, the vision was clear: to create a backpack refined enough for professional settings, yet practical enough to support the realities of everyday life.
“We wanted to design something that could move effortlessly through the different moments of the day,” Judi explains. “Whether you’re heading into the office, commuting to university, travelling, or managing a busy day with kids, the bag needed to feel as polished as it was practical.”
Throughout the design process, every detail was considered with intention - from the silhouette and structure to the way the bag opens and how each compartment supports the rhythm of a busy day. The goal was to create something intuitive to use, where thoughtful organisation brings a sense of calm to even the most demanding schedules.

Designed With Intention
The Odyssey Insulated Backpack was one of the most requested additions to the Odyssey range - something our community had been asking for since the collection first launched. The challenge was creating a backpack that stayed true to the Ela & Earth aesthetic while delivering the functionality needed for everyday life.
“As soon as the Odyssey Tote Bag launched, we started receiving requests for a backpack version,” Judi shares. “But it had to feel like a natural extension of the range - practical enough for busy days, but still elevated enough for work and travel.”
Crafted from lightweight yet durable nylon, the Insulated Backpack features a structured rectangular silhouette with a wide top opening that makes it easy to see and access everything inside. Clever internal compartments help organise daily essentials, including a dedicated laptop sleeve designed to fit most 16" laptops in the Large size and 14” laptops in the Small.
A built-in 1L Water Bottle holder and fully insulated lining allow space for lunch and drinks, while thoughtful details keep everyday essentials organised and within reach. A discreet rear zip pocket keeps valuables like your phone, wallet or passport secure, and a lockable double-zip closure adds peace of mind when commuting or travelling. The rear travel sleeve allows the backpack to slide effortlessly onto a suitcase handle for seamless journeys.
Finished with a versatile three-way carry design, padded adjustable shoulder straps, a detachable shoulder strap and custom Ela & Earth zip hardware, the Odyssey Insulated Backpack brings refined practicality to life on the go.
Two Sizes, Three Colourways
Because no two days - or routines - look the same, the Odyssey Insulated Backpack is available in two thoughtfully designed sizes.
The Large Odyssey Backpack comfortably fits most 16” laptops and offers generous space for work essentials, travel items, and everything you need for a full day away from home. The Small Odyssey Backpack provides a more compact silhouette while still delivering the same intelligent organisation, comfortably fitting most 14” laptops alongside your everyday essentials.
Both sizes share the same considered structure, practical compartments and elevated finish.
The Odyssey Insulated Backpack will launch in three colourways: Black with Gold hardware, Black with Gunmetal hardware, and Cocoa with tonal hardware. Cocoa is a rich new tone introduced to the Odyssey range - and already a favourite among the Ela & Earth team.
Each colourway was carefully selected to complement everyday wardrobes while maintaining the timeless, understated elegance Ela & Earth is known for.
